The BlackBerry 8700c is the latest addition to the Blackberry series of mobile e-mail devices. This is the first of RIM.s releases that features EDGE capabilities and an Intel-powered processor that makes browsing and opening of applications more fun, easier and faster. With all the other new features available in this model, this might give the BlackBerry 8700c yet another outstanding lead in the market.
The BlackBerry 8700c has notably one of the best designs out in the market. It measures 4.3 by 2.7 by 0.8 inches and weighs 4.7 ounces. It sports a blue-gray and black color scheme combination that is found to be attractive by a lot of people. The device also features a functional QWERTY keyboard that is well appreciated by long-time users and is much more accepted than the modified keyboard that RIM introduced in their previous BlueBerry releases.
The BlackBerry 8700c.s 2.5 inch diagonal screen does not offer a touch option, but instead it applied its scroll-wheel and back-button interface which is found in earlier releases. The device has a 240 by 320 pixel screen with an innovative ambient light sensor function that automatically adjusts the screen and keyboards backlight to make viewing easier in any environmental circumstances.
The device also has the Talk and End keys and customizable soft keys. Although these features have been introduced before, the BlackBerry 8700c is the first traditional model that has this attribute. A LED can also be found in the upper right corner of the phone; it blinks different colors that suggest the phone.s various activities -- blue for Bluetooth connectivity, red for message notification, green for network activity, and yellow for low battery.
Aside from being an e-mail device (which the BlackBerry is known for and is considered the leader among its competitors), it now supports Microsoft PowerPoint documents and is able to show Microsoft Excel files as spread sheets instead of plain text.
Another good addition to this device is its capability to be hooked up with companies like BlackBerry, Novell GroupWise, Microsoft Exchange, or IBM Lotus Domino server, thus making e-mail deliveries convenient to its users.
The BlackBerry 8700c is yet another step in smart phone technology. It certainly boasts a lot of functions that may serve as a reference in the development of similar devices.
