Samsung SPH-A640
At first glance, the Samsung A640 looks like an ineffable solid black object. On that level, this surely is not one.s generic phone. From afar, one cannot even make out the external screen. It just 'disappears', so to speak.
Users are apt to wax poetic about the exceptional appearance of the Samsung A640. When roused from its slumber, the phone lights up in all its luminous glory, possibly catching off guard the first-time user. On the 80 x 64 external screen blue figures reveal the time and day amidst pitch blackness. Flipped open, a bright 128 x 160 LCD display comes into view.
It.s just so unfortunate that bigger fingers will find this captivatingly made phone excruciating to use. The Samsung A640 has a constricted keypad, it appears. But then again, many should delight at its lightness, at only 3.2 ounces. At 3.6 x 1.8 x 0.9 inches, the phone should fit snuggly in a pocket.
Given all these little ostentations, the Samsung A640 is surprisingly affordable. But wait, it is equipped with Bluetooth wireless technology. This means the user is not far from syncing with computers, headsets, car kits, printers, and computers. If the user so much as hooks the phone to a PC, then presto, he or she has an instant Bluetooth modem, albeit only for a Sprint network. There.s a catch though . one cannot transfer files, not even ringtones.
Undeniably, the Samsung A640 is ideally great value for money. Even more so it is for Sprint subscribers, as the phone is supposed to be Ready Link-Capable. In other words, users don.t have to exert effort in dialing. They can just push one button to connect with other Ready Link subscribers at any given time.
If anything, this gizmo is built with a digital camera with a functioning zoom. It may not have a flash but it is of VGA quality. In all, the Samsung gadget has a capacity for taking 40 photos, but not videos. In fairness, the external display can show self portraits.
There is also a built-in microphone for those who want to be let in on some chatter. With just a press on a side button, the speakerphone kicks into life, performing with truly great clarity. This feature performs equally well when one closes the flip. Speakerphone aside, the voice quality is excellent enough in the earpiece.
There.s just one thing though; with all its blackness, the handset is susceptible to smudges.
