UTStarcom, headquartered at Alameda, California was founded in the year 1991. It got its name UTStarcom by the merger of two companies called UniTech and Starcom in 1995. Hong Lu is the current CEO of UTStarcom. It is a Fortune 1000 company specialized in Internet Protocol related networking products and telecommunication equipment. One of the major product lines from UTStarcom is its handset phones. It has research and design operations in several countries such as the USA, Korea, China and India.
UTStarcom provides several types of mobile phones, both GSM and CDMA. Some of the UTStarcom phones come with Bluetooth, still camera, video camera, email, music player, MMS, speaker phone, camcorder, browser and GPRS among other useful features. UTStarcom F 1000 is a Wi-Fi SIP voice over IP handset with features like comfort noise generation (CNG), voice activity detection and echo cancellation.
UTStarcom acquired CommWorks Corporation from 3Com Corporation in 2003. It also acquired an IPTV equipment company called Rolling Streams Systems in 2003. To boost its mobile phone manufacturing, UTStarcom acquired the cell phone division of Audiovox Communication Corporation in 2004. UTStarcom is now one of the market leaders of the mobile phone industry.
