30 Seconds to Mars is a Los Angeles based rock band created in the year 1998 by the popular actor, musician and song writer Jared Leto. Born on December 26, 1971 in Bossier City, Louisiana, Jared Leto began his career as an actor and started the band in early 2000 with his brother. nnThe band at present comprises four members - Jared Leto, Shannon Leto, Tomo Milicevic and Tim Kelleher. Jared Leto himself was the lead vocalist and back-up guitarist of the band from the beginning, accompanied by his brother Shannon Leto on the drums. Currently, Tomo Milicevic, who was an early admirer of the band, is the lead guitarist. Tim Kelleher plays bass guitar at present. There were two other former members who left the band, guitarists Solon Bixler and Kevin Drake.nnIn the year 2002 an album by the name 30 Seconds to Mars, a Bob Ezrin production was released. The first album accomplished sales in excess of 100,000. "Edge of the Earth" and "Capricorn (A Brand New Name)" are the music videos off of 30 Seconds to Mars.nnProduced by Josh Abraham, the next album of the band was A Beautiful Lie, released on August 30, 2005. As part of the effort to promote their band and bring about a musical hit, they traveled to over four different continents during the course of three years. This resulted in platinum album sales as measured by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America,) an honor accorded to any album that sells more than 1,000,000 copies. The second single off of A Beautiful Li - the track The Kill - earned the MTV2 Award for the band. nnThe band is well admired for its amazing vocal melody backed by guitar, bass, drums and electronic instrumentation, and for its characteristic fusion of jazz-rock music with classical music. Album sales don't lie, and 30 Seconds to Mars have overcome critics who initially labeled the combo "just a pretty face".
