Though Christian pop artist Amy Grant had been making records since 1979, and had significant success in the '80s, her 1991 breakthrough album, HEART IN MOTION, brought her to the mainstream in a big way. With her blend of pop, gospel, and R&B, Grant helped define the concept of contemporary Christian music, establishing a framework where spiritual lyrics could be matched with musical styles previously reserved for secular artists. In 2000, Grant married country star Vince Gill, with whom she'd already been involved in musical collaborations.
