Though he recently shaved his trademark dreadlocks, rapper Busta Rhymes remains one of the most unique talents in the game today. The man can spit rhymes faster than a speeding bullet, and his fondness for throwing odd growls and shouts into his songs make them instantly recognizable to hip hop fans everywhere. His sound is fun and energetic without being watered down club pop. Busta grew up in a suburb of New York City and soon found himself involved with Jay-Z, Notorious BIG and other future stars of hip hop's thriving scene. He got his start with a crew who called themselves Leaders of the New School, who released a couple moderately successful albums. They did a guest spot with the socially conscious jazz-rappers A Tribe Called Quest's on their single "Scenario" on the Arsenio Hall show. Busta's lyrics were the ones that undeniably stood out. The single appearance earned him his own recording contract, and he went solo in 1996. His debut disc The Coming was released on Elektra Records and got him instant urban radio play with his signature single "Woo-Hah!! Got You All In Check." He followed it up with When Disaster Strikes... and one of his biggest singles, "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See." The visionary Hype Williams video of Busta running around under black lights in fluorescent body paint was eye-catching enough to win him new fans. True fans who had been paying attention would have noticed that each of Busta's albums began with a skit predicting the end of the world in the year 2000, and 1998's Extinction Level Event with its Psycho-sampling hit single "Gimme Some More" continued the theme. But the world didn't end, and Busta Rhymes went on to collaborate with The Neptunes on "Pass the Courvoisier" and later signed with Dr.Dre's Aftermath Entertainment in 2006 His album The Big Bang went on to release hit singles like Touch It and I Love My Chick.
