Da Brat (Shawntae Harris) is a famous female American solo rapper, born on April 14, 1974. She was born in Chicago, Illinois and at the age of 11, she started rapping. Among the female rappers in the 1990s, Da Brat was the most prominent. She is famous for her light-hearted, lively style and sharp tongued verses. In 1992, Da Brat won an amateur rapcompetition (an MTV-sponsored MC contest). She got noticed by producer Jermaine Dupri who signed her up for his So So Def Label. She released her debut album "Funkdafied" in 1994. The title track in the album was a big hit and charted at no.2 on R&B charts. In 1996, Da Brat's album "Anuthatantrum" was released. In the same year she made her film debut in Kazaam alongside Shaquille O'Neal. Da Brat also made her appearance on other hip hop artist's hit singles and remixes. She featured on hit singles including "Not Tonight" (Lil' Kim), "Honey (So So Def mix)" and "Sock It 2 Me" (Missy Elliott). In 1999, she performed as a guest artist in a remix of "Heartbreaker" by Mariah Carrey. She also featured along with Ludacris on Carey's "Loverboy" which rated number one on Billboard Hot Hip Hop Singles chart. The third album of Da Brat, "Unrestricted" was released in 2000 and it has turned out to be her most popular album to date. With the hit singles "What Chu Like" and "That's What I'm Looking For," the album reached number 2 on R&B charts and number 5 in the US. In the same year she appeared on Destiny Child's remix of the track "Jumpin' Jumpin." Da Brat released the solo album - "Limelite, Luv & Niteclubz" in 2003 which include the hit single "In Love Wit Chu." In 2005, Da Brat featured on a remix of "I Think They Like Me" by Dem Franchize Boyz that reached number one on the Billboard Hip Hop Singles chart and number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 list. Da Brat also made television appearances on the game shows "The Weakest Link" and Celebrity Fit Club (Fifth Season, 2007).
