Ike and Tina Turner were one of the most popular and sensational couples performing together during their time. Ike and Tina were a rock and roll, R&B duo, who also happened to be husband and wife. They were all the rage in the 1960s and '70s, known for their sensual melodies and on-stage exhilarating dancing. The famous duo stopped recording together around 1976.nnPerhaps as famous for their off-stage marriage troubles as for their on-stage performances, Tina Turner launched an attempt at a solo career in 1975. As Tina's autobiography, I, Tina, so poignantly relates, Ike abused Tina throughout their 14-year marriage in an effort to control her. She finally left him and they were divorced in 1978. Tina did go on to become successful in her own right and still is to this day.nnIn 1991, Ike and Tina were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 1993 and 2003, two of their songs, "Proud Mary," and "River Deep - Mountain High," were included in the Grammy Hall of Fame. Tina received her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1986.nnTina is currently living with her boyfriend, splitting her time between Switzerland and France. Ike is remarried and living in Los Angeles. He has since publicly apologized to Tina for all the things he did to hurt her, but acknowledges that he can't change the past.nnAt a film premiere in late 2006, Tina Turner announced she was back in the studio and recording tracks for a new album. This recording is the first in eight years of new material from Tina. In May 2007, Tina headlined a concert for a charity in London, the Cauldwell Children's Charity. Tina Turner is scheduled to release a new DVD in late 2007.nnIke Turner was convicted on drug charges in the mid-1980s and sentenced to a California state prison. He was released in 1993. Since Ike's release from prison, he has published two albums: one in 2004 entitled, Here and Now, and one in 2007 entitled, Rising with the Blues.
