Hard rapper Jeffrey Atkins, better known by his stage name Ja Rule, came up from the tough New York neighborhood of Hollis, Queens. Ja Rule is best known for his trademark deep, rough vocals and thug life lyrics. The muscular MC has also been involved in a very public feud with artists on Aftermath records, most notably 50 Cent and Eminem. But before the diss tracks started flying, Ja Rule made his name with a series of gravel-voiced hits. He introduced himself to the public on 1995's collaboration "Time To Kill" with Jay-Z and DMX. He was rapidly signed to Def Jam and appears on the party hit "Can I Get A?" again with Jay-Z. Ja Rule dropped his official full-length debut in 1999, the platinum Venni Vetti Vecci. Ja Rule teamed up with the Murder Inc. crew on several subsequent releases including the classic Irv Gotti Presents? The Murderers with co-conspirators DMX, Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes and Christina Milian. The album broke triple platinum and had hits with "Put It On Me" and "Between Me And You." Ja's third LP, Pain Is Love featured the single "Always On Time," a smash duet with young R&B talent Ashanti. It was around this time that 50 Cent broke huge and the Murder Inc. Vs. Aftermath feud commenced, both stables of artists trading disses faster than fans could keep track. Ja Rule dropped a whole diss album, Blood In My Eye. Apparently fans weren't interested in encouraging this potentially fatal rivalry and the album only went gold. Trying to put the feud behind him, Ja Rule returned to form on 2004's R.U.L.E. with huge hits "New York" featuring Jadakiss and "Wonderful" with R&B man R. Kelly.
