Julie Roberts is a relatively new face within the country music scene, with her 2004 self-titled debut album still the crowning glory of her singing career. After working as assistant to producer Luke Lewis, she recorded a demo tape that he loved and soon Julie Roberts was released. The first single, titled "Break Down Here," hit no. 18 on the American country charts and thus proclaimed Roberts a bona-fide professional country singer. Unfortunately her follow up singles did not break the top twenty and so far her second album, the 2006 record Men and Mascara, has yet to claim any of the success of her very first release. nnRoberts has been working towards a career in music her entire life; attending singing camp, performing in nursing homes and touring at an early age with her parents gave her an appreciation for the hard work involved, the dedication needed and a fondness for blues as well as country music. This love of the blues was fostered during her work with elderly singers in the nursing homes she performed in, and this has touched her own songwriting in a way that makes it somewhat unique to country in the States.nnThe love of blues has also affected Roberts' singing, and because of this her vocals are distinctive and often quite moody. She has her own style of performing and her own brand within the country music industry that, with a little perseverance and audience reception, could make her a lasting star. Having yet failed to top "Break Down Here," Julie Roberts continues to write, record and hope that her music will cement itself within the industry as she works to gain a stronger fan base.
