Petite pop superdiva Kylie Minogue was born and raised in Mebourne, Australia. She's always been drawn to and driven when it comes to show-business, and began acting at age seven. In the early 1980's, she starred in the hit Aussie soap Neighbors and the show found crossover success with UK audiences too. As part of a cast benefit concert, Kylie sang the golden oldie "The Locomotion" and a singing career was born. The song, attached to an album of teenpop confections, was a hit all over the world. But "The Locomotion" proved Kylie's last taste of U.S. success for awhile. Though she was a darling in the UK her every release and comment were pounced on by the infamous English press her album sales started strong and declined with each release. Kylie was faced with the tough job of having to discover her personal identity while growing up in the public eye, and her videos got more sexually explicit. The late INXS singer Michael Hutchence, with whom she was involved, once told the press his favorite pastime was "corrupting Kylie." Flat album sales led to an unlikely collaboration with dour indie rocker Nick Cave on a murder ballad, "Where the Wild Roses Grow." Kylie sings the part of the victim. But the single and several live shows with Cave brought Kylie to the attention of a more sophisticated audience. She went on to broaden her image by collaborating with Robbie Williams, The Pet Shop Boys and hip Japanese DJ Towa-Tei. But it wasn't until 2001, with the release of Fever, that Kylie Minogue conquered the world. The hit single "I Just Can't Get You Out Of My Head" proved entirely unstoppable, blending killer electro hooks with breathy disco-pop excess and lusty lyrical come-on's, a trend continued throughout the multi-platinum-selling album. Kylie Minogue also played the Can-Can dancing, absinthe-induced green fairy in Baz Luhrman's cult hit, Moulin Rouge!
