Lloyd Harlin Polite Jr, better known as just Lloyd, is a popular R&B singer. He was born on 3rd January, 1986, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Lloyd was greatly influenced and encouraged by his parents both of whom were actively engaged in the musical profession. After his father's death when Lloyd was just two, he moved with his family to Atlanta in Georgia.
When Lloyd was ten, he met Joyce Irby, a musician cum singer in the remarkable female band 'Klymaxx'. She made him a member of the N-Toon trio (Everett Hall and Justin Clark came later). Despite the release of two singles namely "You Should Be My Girl" and "Ready," their debut album ?"Toon Time" received no attention. Dreamworks Records could not even think of working on an R & B album and so the group separated.
Lloyd signed up with MJM, Magic Johnson's label. The CD "Oh My Lloyd" was released in 2001 and included the single "Hey Young Girl." But the label went under and 14 year old Lloyd returned to Atlanta where he met Mark Pitts, the A & R executive of Arista Records at DARP. Lloyd was given the opportunity to demonstrate his talent to Antonio L.A.Reid and even landed an offer from the well-known label executive and producer. But that too was unsuccessful. Lloyd's chance meeting with Irv Gotti resulted in his clinching a contract with The Inc. / Def Jam Records. Thus, "Southside," Lloyd's debut single in which he shares vocals with Ashanti came out and was a huge hit. His first album, "Southside," appeared in 2004.
In 2006, Lloyd came out with a new track "You" that featured Lil Wayne and posted it on his My Space page. The song was No.1 on BET's 106 & Park Top 10 Live. Lloyd's second album "Street Love" with the track "You" came out on 13th March, 2007.
Lloyd has done recordings with several artists from the South: Young Jeezy, Roy Jones, 8 Ball and MJG, Snoop Dogg, Trillville, and Lil Scrappy. The Recording Association of America (RIAA) certified "Street Love" as gold.
Lloyd recently signed a contract with label Sho'nuff Records. He has appeared on several television shows, his most memorable appearance being on "One on One."
