Loverboy is a Canadian band that started up in the 1980's. Founding members were Paul Dean (from Streetheart) and Mike Reno (from Moxy). The rest of the crew was then made up of Scott Smith on bass, Doug Johnson on keyboards and Matthew Frenette on drums. nThe group found their initial success in their home country of Canada with their first album which was immensely popular. They released the album in the U.S. through Columbia and had instant popularity there as well. "Working for the Weekend," "Get Lucky," "Lovin Every Minute of it" and "Turn Me Loose" were some of their most popular tunes. nSkinny red leather pants, a bandana and a strong blast of guitar ARE Loverboy. Powerful music that is meant to be belted and cranked is what you get with this band. There is no such thing as Loverboy at volume 1 or 2. The unique vocals of Mike Reno are a huge part of the Loverboy sound as well and those vocals are crisp and clear and also very, very strong. There is a toughness about this music. It is rock, like hard rock in the style of the 80's, and there is still plenty of airplay for the classic tunes of this group. The rock solid sound leant itself perfectly to the soundtrack of "Top Gun" which was an enormous hit on the big screen. nLoverboy produced music that was pure energy. Lightening bolts of fiercely strong lyrics and melody that struck right to the very core of rock fans is what they specialized in and what made them special. Topics that everyone could relate to were their themes and they belted them out in a uniquely commanding way. nLoverboy toured extensively and was often referred to as one of the hardest working bands of the 80's.
