Mae is a Virginia Beach rock band that is relatively new on the music scene. The name Mae is actually an acronym for Multi-sensory Aesthetic Experience. After forming in 2001, the band has made three full length records: Destination: Beautiful (2003), The Everglow (2005) and Singularity (2007). Although their first album didn't manage to chart on the US Billboard, the follow up peaked at no. 51. Interestingly, after Mae switched their label from Tooth & Nail to Capitol for Singularity, their last record peaked at no. 40. nMae is a progressive rock band that has borrowed producers from My Chemical Romance and other popular genre bands. Mae has also been a part of the Vans Warped Tour. Mixing with punk and rock bands alike, Mae has been able to appeal to a wide range of rock, alternative, metal, indie and punk fans. They have also been able to maintain their own style of composition and performance. The tracks have been generally well received despite a somewhat low charting on the Billboards. Since their debut, Mae has drummed up a lot of interest not only from their local Virginia Beach hometown, but from all across the country. This may be particularly because of Mae's participation in the Warped Tour; in the past, the Warped Tour has catapulted many lesser known bands to success. nThere have been a few line-up changes since the band's inception; however, this has not phased core band members or fans. Current band members include Dave Elkins, Zach Gehring, Mark Padgett, Jacob Marshall and Rob Sweitzer. They re-released Everglow in 2006 to include a two and a half hour DVD that was intended to give its audience a closer look at the member themselves, the creative process and the mentality behind the music. Plans for further touring and records are definitely on the table.
