Indian pop singer Parvati Khan received a new wave of attention when U.K. artist M.I.A. sampled Khan's hit "Jimmy Jimmy" for her album "Kala." "Jimmy Jimmy" was Khan's biggest hit, taken from the Bollywood soundtrack "Disco Dancer." She made her debut in 1989 with the song "Khula Thala Chod Aayi" after having won a nationwide talent contest in Trinidad. Khan has also stirred up significant controversy in India after offering prayers in Kashi Vishwanath temple, she admitted to having performed abhishek at the temple in Varanasi during Mahashivratri despite having been banned earlier from doing so due to opposition from the Shiv Sainiks in 2004. She has also embarked on a number of other projects including serving as a spiritual guru at the Tihar Jail, believing that she has been chosen as a peace envoy.
