About Rah Digga

One of music's most respected and premier "rapper's rapper" - regardless of gender - Rashia Fisher, aka Rah Digga, has been writing and performing hip hop since she was a young teen. Though the Newark native came from very humble beginnings, she was awarded a full scholarship through the National Honor Society and able to attend a private high school in Maryland where she graduated as the class salutatorian. She would enter the nationally renowned New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) to study electrical engineering.  However, the calling of hip hop was just too great, and after a year she left NJIT to pursue a career in music. She eventually joined local group Twice the Flavor, and then became the only female member of New Jersey's acclaimed hip hop group, Da Outsidaz, where she also met future husband, Young Zee. Soonafter, Rah exploded on the music scene when she caught the eye of A Tribe Called Quest's Q-Tip, as she was throwing down at New York's famed SOB for Lyricist Lounge - and eight months pregnant. Q-Tip introduced Rah to Busta Rhymes, who brought her onboard as the only female member of his newly created Flipmode Squad.  And she's never looked back. It wasn't long before Rah would be featured - whether with her Flipmode comrades or on her own - on some of hip-hop's most ground-breaking and influential projects, from Grammy winners and nominees to platinum juggernauts to gold gems, including:  The Fugees' The Score ("Cowboys"); DJ Clue's The Professional, Pt. 2 ("Getting It"); several Busta projects - When Disaster Strikes ("We Could Take It Outside"), Genesis ("Betta Stay Up in Your House"); and It Ain't Safe No More ("I Know What You Want"), just to name a few. Following Rah and the Flipmode Squad striking gold with The Imperial Album, and winning the Source Hip Hop Music Award for Best New Group, in 2000 she finally released her solo project, Dirty Harriet. A critically-acclaimed debut, it would produce several chart-topping singles - "Imperial" (featuring Busta), "Tight", "Break Fool" and "Tight The Remix."  After Dirty Harriet, she continued to work with the Flipmode Squad and other artists.  Then when she released her highly-anticipated second solo album, Everything is a Story in 2004, she had another hit single, "Party and Bullsh*t" with the heavily spun remix that included Eve and Missy Elliot. Staying true to her roots, Rah has performed throughout her career on classic "underground" and cutting-edge artist and DJ compilation projects, such as: The Lyricist Lounge Vol. 1 ("Be Ok"); the anti-police brutality Hip Hop For Respect, in memory of Amadou Diallo; Talib Kweli's Reflection Eternal/Train of Thought ("Down for the Count"); DJ Whoo Kid & Lloyd Banks' Money in the Bank ("Party Over Here"), and many others. In addition, Rah has worked with some of hip-hop's top producers, including: Rottweiler, Primo, Pete Rock, Scott Storch and Jus Blaze.  A prolific songwriter, Rah also has her own publishing company, Rah Digga Music. Though Rah's music talent as a performer and songwriter has been clear from the very beginning, over the last several years she has also revealed yet another great talent - acting. Starring along side Beyonce and Wyclef Jean, Rah made her debut in MTV's Carmen: A Hip Hopera. She was also able to display her comedy skills as a guest star on FOX's "MAD TV." Though she was featured in two hip hop documentaries, Rah made her acting film debut in Thirteen Ghosts with Emmy-winning actor, Tony Shalhoub ("Monk") and Oscar winner, F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus). Now bitten by the acting bug, Rah is looking to increase her film and TV projects to develop a "hyphenate" career like fellow actor-recording artists, Beyonce, Ludacris, Mos Def and Queen Latifah. Her next project is Diary of a Champion, a film about the 2004 Olympics, which is still currently in development. Rah also merged her love of film with music by performing on several soundtracks:  Friday After Next, Dr. Doolittle 2, Thirteen Ghosts, Blade II, and of course, Carmen: A Hip Hopera. An additional talent that Rah has revealed is for modeling. With her striking looks it's no surprise that she's been in commercials and print ads for designers such as Tommy Hilfiger and Maurice Malone. Rah's next photo opp is in an upcoming celebrity cookbook that features her along with Fabolous and Mos Def, among others, and their favorite recipes. Rah has also been on the lecture circuit around the world through Global Talent Associates, speaking from all aspects of hip hop culture to the empowerment of young women. In addition, she's been a spokesperson for MTV's popular Rock The Vote campaign; and Rah is about to do an unique community outreach campaign in New York via Mayor Michael Bloomberg. She's also looking forward to working with recently elected Newark mayor, Corey Booker on local community projects. Though she is actively pursuing her acting career and will continue her community outreach, Rah is not about to give up music. She was recently featured on Busta's 2006 hit, "Touch It Remix," that included Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, Lloyd Banks, DMX, and Flipmode artist, Papoose. She performed the song with Busta on "The 2006 BET Awards," where it had been nominated for "Best Duet/Collaboration." Speaking of awards, in addition to "Touch It" being nominated for a MTV Music Video Award, it won the inaugural BET Hip Hop Music Award for "Best Collaboration" and deemed an ASCAP Award for the same category. Rah also won additional ASCAP awards for another Busta collaboration, "I Know What You Want," which also featured Mariah Carey. With her fan base still in tact, Rah continues to perform live around the country. From headlining with Slum Village at last summer's feted Music Unity Expo to a string of performances in the "Hip Hop Is Not Dead" tour in Miami with Dead Prez and Papoose. Rah has even performed several spot dates with several noted "underground" artists for a "Giving Back To The Community" campaign to show the kids in the inner cities that she has not forgotten her roots. In fact, because she's given back so much to the community, Rah was given one of her most prized possessions - the key to her hometown of Newark. Popular overseas, Rah will also continue her international music ties and collaborations, which have included artists such as British R&B star, Jamelia ("Bout"), and most recently, Akay of Overground, one of the top singing groups in Germany, where Rah has a strong following. She is a featured performer on Akay's upcoming solo project. That the admiration of Rah crosses oceans and borders, is best evidenced by new music superstar and U.K. import, Amy Winehouse, who sang Rah's praises when asked about her favorite hip hop artists in the June 2007 edition of XXL. Winehouse stated, "I love Rah Digga, her rhymes are just cool." And Winehouse will soon flow some of Rah's newest rhymes when she records with Rah on her third solo project, The Price Just Went UP, which will also feature several cameo appearances from some of today's top music artists in the world.
