Marece Richards (Rich Boy), a recent entrant to the rap scene (active since 2005) is renowned for his maiden single "Throw Some D's." The American rapper was born in Mobile, Alabama on the 2nd of September, 1983. As a youngster, Rich Boy listened to artists like 8 Ball & MJG, ESG & Too Short, UGK and Crime Boss who influenced him greatly. Drug dealers took up the place of role models for a young Rich Boy. Hoping to bring out her son's good side, his mother made him attend church services. He was a church drummer.
Rich Boy joined Tuskegee University, majoring in mechanical engineering. Awe-stricken by a rap beat he had heard in the college hallway, Rich Boy started creating his own beats. His talent was recognized by Roy Jones Jr. who liked his tracks so much that he bought them. Rich Boy got his first check and decided to drop out of school.
Rich Boy had tried on several occasions to get into WBLX, the neighborhood radio station. His wish was fulfilled through evening personality Nick at Nite, The Krunkmonster who played the song "Cold as Ice" every single night. Rich Boy came into contact with Atlanta rap group Jim Crow and gave Polow Da Don (one of the members) a copy of his CD. Polow was impressed and took him to Atlanta for a studio recording.
Rich Boy signed up for his debut album "Rich Boy" with Zone 4 Entertainment managed by Polow himself. The album's first single, "Throw Some D's" was Rich Boy's first song to figure in the Top10. "Rich Boy" came out in March 2007 and was No.3 on the US Billboard 200. Other album hits include: "Get To Poppin," "Role Models," "Boy Looka Here," and "Lost Girls."
What's special about Rich Boy's music is his versatility, each track has fresh beats. The songs are about Mobile, Rich Boy's upbringing, how experience has influenced him, and what has made him the man he is today.
Rich Boy has done a guest appearance on a "Disturbing tha Peace" compilation by Ludacris. He has also appeared on mixtapes by Jermaine Dupri and DJ Ideal.
