Shop Boyz is an Atlanta, Georgia based rap group that was formed in 2004. It was created by cousins Richard 'Fat' Stevens and Demetrius 'Meany' Hardin, together with their best friend Rasheed 'Sheed' Hightower. All of them shared their growing up years at Bankhead, in western Atlanta. They dreamt of being successful hip hop artists and would spend the little spare time they had in making music. Their hard work and talent ultimately paid off when they were noticed by a local producer Richard 'Fire' Harris, the CEO of OnDeck Records. Brian 'Bingo' Ward signed them with a studio recording contract. Their unique style had a blend of hip-hop music with rock instrumentation, and so their music was popularly nicknamed as 'hood rock.' For about three years during their work with OnDeck Records, they recorded a number of songs and mix tapes, and brought out straight-to-the-street albums. Their first debut album was released on June 19, 2007 with the name Rockstar Mentality (retail album leaked through the Internet on June 10). 'Party Like A Rockstar' is the first single from the album that spread like wildfire in and around the country within the first four months of its release, rising to the top of the charts at no. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Though 'Party Like a Rockstar' was an incredible music hit, its album received poor reception, both commercially and critically. In spite of this, the album appeared no. 11 on the Billboard 200 and sold around 52,000 copies in its first week. The biggest hit of Atlanta in 2007, 'Party Like a Rockstar,' is currently one of the most played rap and rhythmic songs in the US. It is also the Summer Hit of 2007 according to MTV. As a result of the hit, this single was chosen by the Universal Republic Records for national distribution after entering into an agreement with OnDeck Records. Shop Boyz is planning to do a music video of this album. "They Like Me" is the second single from the album.
