The melodic trio Sugarland shocked the country music world in 2004, when the fresh-faced young musicians drifted onto the scene like a fresh breeze. Unlike the heavily produced Nashville pop that was dominating the airwaves at the time, Sugarland's sound blended a rootsy folk sensibility with a slick knack for songwriting. The female trio addressed themes like restlessness and faith with an earnest intensity that came from personal experience. Sugarland began life when Jennifer Nettles, Kristen Hall and Kristian Bush were all performing around Georgia's twangy folk-rock cafe scene. The girls were each involved in their own musical projects at the time but quickly struck up a collaborative friendship. After working out material and touring together, Sugarland signed with Mercury Nashville Records in 2003 and released their smash debut single "Baby Girl." The heart-wrenching story of a young female musician swallowing her pride and writing home for money went on to break all kinds of records and had the longest stay at the top of the Billboard Country charts since the invention of SoundScan. The group was shocked by the success of their simple song and even more surprised when their major label debut album Twice the Speed of Life quickly went 2X platinum. Follow-up singles off of Twice the Speed of Life were "Something More", "Just Might (Make Me Believe)" and the barn-burning riverboat gambling stomper "Down In Mississippi (Up to No Good.)" The band got even more exposure performing with Jersey rocker Bon Jovi on the genre-bending music show, Crossroads. The show aims to introduce artists who champion different musical styles to each other, and Jennifer Nettles sang "Who Says You Can't Go Home" with Bon Jovi. Their duet earned Nettles another country chart no.1. In 2006, founding member Kristen Hall left the band to pursue her own songwriting. Since then, Sugarland have been touring as a duo (Nettles and Bush) and their second, pop-skewed album Enjoy the Ride, has seen instant success on the strength of lead-off single "Want To."
