The Kansas City rapper Tech N9ne would have to be one of the weirdest, sickest MC's in the game today. Drugged out, thugged out and all around messed up Tech N9ne is a shot in the heart for anyone bored to death with commercial hip hop. The man is doing his own thing 24/7, and his ill krunk beats make pioneers like Lil Jon look weak. Tech N9ne is also well known for his raucous live performances, and he frequently appears in tribal makeup or with long red dreadlocks. Since his music is too strange for most mainstream rap music outlets, Tech N9ne's growing infamy is entirely due to his popularity with his expanding fan-base, and most Tech N9ne shows sell out purely on the strength of word of mouth buzz. Tech N9ne has been in the game for a while now. The Killa Clown got his start in 1987, rhyming with the rough NNUTT HOWZE crew based out of Kansas. Today, Tech still shouts out NNUTT HOWZE's cell digits during his live shows. After a brief stint with The 57th Street Rogue Dog Villains, T-9 decided to strike out on his own. In 2002, Tech N9ne founded his aptly named Strange Music record label so that he could have complete control of his artistic output. Today, Strange Music is a crucial fixture in the Kansas underground scene. Given his anti-establishment stance, Tech N9ne has had on again/ off again success with the mainstream charts. Beloved by underground fans, one of his few singles to see any chart success was 2002's "Slacker." Tech N9ne searches far and wide for his samples, which have included everything from Falco's vintage 80's hit "Rock Me Amadeus" to Perry Como's "Mambo Italiano." The long-fighting Tech N9ne has also shared the studio with a host of hip hop royalty, including Insane Clown Posse, 2Pac, Kottonmouth Kings, Twiztid and Low Life Mafia. Most recently, Tech N9ne was a featured artist on the soundtrack to the hit movie Alpha Dog, and he has also been responsible for almost single-handedly popularizing the overproof cocktail "Caribous Lou", which is quickly becoming a Kansas City icon.
