The 80's and 90's in Europe saw the explosion of techno, House music, and Technotronic was a Belgian band that fit right into that genre. Even now, they still hold a place in the hearts of many who were around at the peak of their success. The hit single "Pump Up the Jam", released in 1989 on the album with the same name is without doubt the definitive Technotronic track. Originally meant to be recorded and released purely as an instrumental track, perhaps the smartest thing the band ever did was to add lyrics to this song as it is often the only one remembered by people today, aside from the massive hit "Move This". Technotronic continues to produce music today and has released five albums since 1989: Pump Up the Jam: The Album (1989), Trip on This, The Remixes (1990), Body to Body (1991), Greatest Hits (1993) and Recall (1995). Many of the band's singles are still popping up on television and in the theatre. Although the peak of success has come and gone, people continue to make references to the more popular tracks and it is not uncommon to hear a Technotronic track sneak its way onto the playlist at a club or at a wedding disco. The music from this band is very much of its time: electronic, reliant on sound synthesizers and the willingness of the audience to break down and dance. Technotronic inspired a generation of kids to learn new dance moves and to wear neon clothing under black lights - they won't be soon forgotten.
