Don't be fooled; James Gang was a Cleveland rock band formed in 1966 and not a solo musician â_" in fact the name is based on the true name of outlaw Jesse James. The band released ten albums from 1969 to 1976: Yer Album (1969), James Gang Rides Again (1970), Thirds (1971), James Gang Live in Concert (1971), Passin' Thru (1972), Straight Shooter (1972), Bang (1973), Miami (1974), Newborn (1975) and Jesse Come Home (1976). The line-up changed several times over the course of the band's lifetime, and although the original band members were guitarists Glen Schwartz and Ronnie Silverman, drummer Jim Fox, bassist Tom Kriss and keyboardist Phil Giallombardo, the four men never actually released any records while together.nnJames Gang never reached the fame that its members did after leaving to join or form other bands such as The Eagles and Deep Purple, however they did come to hold a special place in the hearts of many in their hometown. The band made a guest appearance on Drew Carey; a show known for its dedication to the city of Cleveland. James Gang created rock music that was of quite good quality and enjoyable in its own right; they had a sound that coupled well with the bands they toured with and opened for, such as The Who. Their single "Funk no. 49" was a hit throughout the United States.nnDespite the break-up of the band, a modern line-up did a U.S. tour in 2006 and also performed live on the Howard Stern radio show. These events proved that the band really had managed to cultivate a fan base at home in Cleveland and in several other parts of America, something that might have surprised even them given the number of years between their record releases and the recent tour.
