The Canadian rockers Three Days Grace split the difference between a crunching, goth-metal nightmare and a pop punk joy ride. The boys-vocalist Adam Gontier, drummer Neil Sanderson, bassist Brad Walst and guitarist Barry Stock-may look young, but they're actually seasoned professionals. They began rocking together way back in 1992 after meeting up in Norwood, Ontario. They were a quintet, and gigged extensively under the name Groundswell. Eventually, they became a four-piece and changed their name to Three Days Grace, then moved to Toronto to seek their musical fortune. In Toronto, they hooked up with Gavin Brown from the legendary Canadian blues band Big Sugar; he saw something in the band and agreed to produce their first recordings. Their self-titled debut Three Days Grace shot up the charts, propelled by the group's intense lyrics and anthemic choruses. The leadoff hit single, the biting "I Hate Everything About You" made it to number one on the Canadian charts and a respectable number 2 on the US Billboard 100. Follow-up singles "Just Like You" and the sweeping "Home" continued the band's run of chart success. In 2006, the band released their follow-up album, the more mature One X. One X sees the Three Days Grace broadening their scope, dallying with straight-up arena-ready metal on "It's All Over" and landing a serious atmospheric punch with the sci-fi themed "Get Out Alive." Fans were thrilled with Three Days Grace's second effort, and the album made a mark on the charts and cemented the band's reputation as champions of new, hard sound.
