At the height of her career, the sassy redhead Tiffany was like a living incarnation of sugary teen pop. Dancing around the mall in her stone-washed denim jacket and hoop earrings, Tiffany ruled the world after the release of her 1987 hit "I Think We're Alone Now." For awhile, Tiffany was THE face of MTV, and the videos for her hits are laser-etched into the memory of anyone who is old enough to remember the golden age of the video cable network. Fittingly enough for a bubblegum pop manifestation, Tiffany was born in Norwalk, CA, just a few miles away from the entertainment capital of Los Angeles. Tiffany fell in love with music at a very early age, and she was passing a hat around with a country revue band when she was only 10. When she was spotted by country singer Hoyt Axton, she almost had a country music career and even shared the stage with Jerry Lee Lewis. Finally, in 1985 Tiffany made it onto Ed McMahon's Star Search talent competition, which was the American Idol of its day. In 1986, she finally got the opportunity to record her debut album, the self-titled Tiffany. "I Think We're Alone Now", originally written by Tommy James & the Shondells, went straight to no.1 and Tiffany's pioneering tour of US malls was greeted with frenzied enthusiasm. Her follow-up single, an adorable dance-pop version of The Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There", was another smash. An interesting pop footnote is that Tiffany actually picked the young act New Kids On the Block as an opener for her first big tour. Unfortunately, at the peak of her career, Tiffany became the center of a bitter custody dispute between her manager and her parents. This took an emotional toll on the young Tiffany, and her career seemed to stall. Her second album, Hold On Old Friends Hand, met with less success than her label expected and she more or less dropped out of the public eye. However, in 2005 Tiffany came back with Dust Off And Dance, a solid album of eruodance tracks, and she has also been experiencing a career resurgence as a diva-tastic gay icon.
