Born in 1981 to Vietnamese parents living in Singapore, Tila (original name Thien Thanh Thi Nguyen) and her family moved to Houston, Texas when she was one year old. There, they lived in a gated community run by a Buddhist temple until Tila was eight. Tila Tequila has discussed her troubled adolescence in details, and she paints a picture of angst and confusion. First, her "tomboy" attitude got her in trouble, and as she grew older she began experimenting with recreational drugs. She says that even her ethnic identity was troubling, causing her to join a Latino street gang. Today, Tila uses her newfound popularity to call attention to social causes, particularly relating to religion, sexuality and drug addiction. At 16, Tila Tequila ran away to New York to escape her troubles and try her luck at acting and modeling. Since then, Tila Tequila has never lacked work, appearing as a luxury car model, a game show host, a Playboy "cyber-girl" and a contestant on rocker Ted Nugent?s reality show. However, it wasn?t until Tila posted a MySpace profile that she became a household name. Tila Tequila?s MySpace popularity was out of control, and she continues to frequently boast the most friends and page views. Based on her MySpace page, MTV offered the self-identified bisexual Tila Tequila her own reality TV dating show with both male and female contestants. The surprisingly emotional weekly program was a huge hit for the network, and Tila walked away hand in hand with the straight male Bobby. However, tabloids report that the relationship did not work out, prompting speculation about a second season for A Shot At Love. Tila Tequila has also released the sexy download singles "I Love U" and "Stripper Friends" and a full major label album is reportedly in the works.
