Vanessa Carlton is an American pop singer who enjoyed sudden popularity with her release of the record Be Not Nobody in 2002. Her single from that album, "A Thousand Miles", reached as high as no. 5 on the U.S. Billboard Charts, and no. 1 on many international charts. The song showcased Carlton as a very polished and talented young female singer, and let her audience know that she had the drive to succeed. nnUnfortunately, Carlton's second release, Harmonium, did not reach its expected sales numbers. Because of this, the singer left A&M records and signed on with The Inc. for her new release Heroes and Thieves (2007). Despite the lowered record sales, Carlton retained her unique singing style for her second record, which was not as well received.
