Wisin & Yandel are a well-known Latin reggaeton duo from Puerto Rico who were nominated for a Grammy. Active since 1995, their first album titled "Los Reyes del Nuevo Milenio" (The Kings of the New Millenium) came out in the year 2000. Their music, a unique fusion of Panamian reggae root and Jamaican dancehall is inspired by that of El General and Vico C, Reggaeton pioneers. n Both Wisin (Juan Luis Morera Luna) and Yandel (Llandel Veguilla MalavAc) were born in Cayey, Puerto Rico. Llandel had been a barber and Wisin had just got his degree in acting and theater. A common love for music brought the two together. Wisin is also known by the names "El Sobrevivente" (The Survivor), "The MatatA¡n" and "The Sensei." Hit singles from the duo include "Dembow," "Mayor Que Yo," "La Gitana," "Noche de Sexo" featuring Aventura, "Rakata," "Pam Pam" and "Mayor Que Yo Part 2." In 1998, Wisin & Yandel collaborated with DJ Dicky in his 'No Fear 3.' The following year, Fresh Production signed them on for an appearance in La MisiA3n, Vol.1 (The Mission, Vol.1) which got a gold status. In 2000, 'Los Reyes del Nuevo Milenio' was released. All the four albums released after that have won gold status. nnWisin & Yandel have the distinction of being the First rappers to be nominated for the Billboard awards. In addition, they were awarded the Tu Musica Award for "Best Rap & Reggaeton Duo" in 2002. n In 2004, the two went solo resulting in "El Sobreviviente" by Wisin and "Quien Contra Mi?" (Who's Against Me?) by Yandel. They returned as a duo with the 2005 release "Pa'l Mundo" (For The World). The album reached the Billboard charts' top spot for Latin albums and the duo's popularity increased beyond the Spanish speaking society. That same year, they came out with a record label of their own namely WY Records. n At a recent award show -'Premios Juventad', Wisin & Yandel enthralled the audience with hits like "Mayor Que Yo" co-performed with Tony Tun Tun, Baby Ranks and Daddy Yankee, and "Rakata." They have done much for charitable organizations like the Home for Children Living with AIDS and the Carlos Arroyo Association.
