Wolfmother is an Australian hard rock band from Erskineville in Sydney, New South Wales. They are best known for their debut self-titled album "Wolfmother" that came out in 2004. "Woman", a single from the album, won the 2007 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. The band has three members: Chris Ross (vocals, guitar), Myles Heskett (drums, percussion), and Andrew Stockdale (keyboard, organ, bass). Wolfmother's psychedelic style of heavy metal music is similar to that of bands like Black Sabbath and Blue Cheer from the late 60's and early 70's. Though Wolfmother was formed in 2000, it only came to the spotlight in early 2004. Wolfmother's first release was an EP entitled "Wolfmother" in 2004 with just four songs: "Woman," "Apple Tree," "Dimension" and "White Unicorn." The intention behind recording this demo was to get booked for shows but the EP was such a big hit that the trio immediately started work on a full-length album by the same name. Dave Sardy was the producer. Meanwhile, another EP "Dimensions" with the hit track "Mind's Eye" was released in 2006. The album "Wolfmother" came out in Australia in October 2005, in the UK in April 2006 and in the US in May 2006. Its cover art is taken from a painting by Frank Frazetta called "The Sea Witch." The album has thrice secured platinum rating. It was number 3 on the Australian Charts. The band Wolfmother won the 2005 J award for the Best Australian Album of the Year from Triple J, an Australian radio network. They have also won the 2006 ARIA awards for Best Rock Album and Best Breakthrough Album. The track "Woman" appears in videogames like "MotorStorm", "Major League Baseball," "Tony Hawk's Project 8," "2K7 Sports," and "Guitar Hero II." Wolfmother has performed for several music festivals including "Big Day Out" and "Splendour in the Grass" in Australia, "Lollapalooza" in America, "Virgin Music Festival" in Baltimore, and "Fuji Rock Festival" in Japan among others. Recently, they performed at the "Download Festival." "Pleased to Meet You," an exclusive fresh song was released by Wolfmother on "Spider-Man 3: The Official Soundtrack" through label "Record Collection." They are currently working on their second album to be released in 2008.
