Ziggy Marley is the son of world famous reggae star Bob Marley. He got his musical education from his father and started his career in a group with his siblings. Ziggy and his four brothers and sisters made up The Melody Makers, and with heavy influence from Bob, they took on a Reggae beat that was celebrated throughout their native Jamaica and the United States.nnWhen The Melody Makers saw record sales declining in the early 1990's, Ziggy put his political stance and his musical prowess to work in a solo career. The singer/songwriter/guitarist has released two solo albums to date: Dragonfly in 2003 and Love is My Religion in 2006. Notably, he also sings the theme song to the children's program Arthur: a very laidback and inspiring tune that lends itself very well to the popular show. His music reflects the teachings of his very talented father, and listeners will often tune in or buy his records because they feel the same vibe from the son as they did from his father. Ziggy is able to laugh at himself and society in his music, as well as point out aspects of life that he feels should be less restricted. His music alludes to drug use and other issues of personal freedom and calls on individuals to stand up for their rights and the rights of those who have no voice. nnSince embarking on his solo career, Ziggy Marley has put the focus on his political endeavours and particularly his work with the United Nations and children's charities. Ziggy's own record label, the Ghetto Youth Crew, allows him to create his own unedited music and to help out new reggae musicians who might otherwise struggle to find a producer.
