Not too far from where I'm blogging in SoHo, lies the Theater District in New York City. It's home to countless
Broadway plays that include Musicals, Dramas and Comedies. One of the longest running shows is
Phantom of the Opera. Since it's debut performance in 1988, it has now surpassed
Cats as the longest running musical on
Broadway. Another popular musical is
Grease, which is currently playing all over the country. In 2007,
NBC held a Reality TV show, where America got to vote in the two lead spots. The show generated a lot of buzz for the
Broadway play, which
Taylor Hicks (of American Idol fame) has recently participated.
There are a number of popular
Broadway shows that were either based-off a movie or became a movie due to it's success. Some of those shows are:
Rent,
Dreamgirls,
West Side Story and
Annie. In the recent weeks, we've seen alot of interest in
Seussical The Musical, based on the stories and books of Dr. Seuss.
