What's Hot On Thumbplay

The talented singer-songwriter William Fitzsimmons, known for his folksy guitar and piano riffs featured on shows like Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill and MTV's Life of Ryan, has hit the road to promote his critically acclaimed album, The Sparrow And The Crow. After several albums and musical spots on TV, Fitzsimmons made an impact earlier this year with his unusual, effective folk version of Kanye West’s “Heartless.”

Check out more of the singer’s work, which has drawn comparisons to folk guitar legends Cat Stevens, Simon & Garfunkel, James Taylor and Bob Dylan:

If You Would Come Back Home
After Afterall
I Don't Feel It Anymore (Song Of The Sparrow)
We Feel Alone
If You Would Come Back Home
Please Forgive Me (Song Of The Crow)
Further From You
Just Not Each Other
Even Now
You Still Hurt Me
They'll Never Take the Good Years

Starting today, download William Fitzsimmons’s new single “If You Would Come Back Home” for FREE at the Thumbplay Music Store. The new Thumbplay Music Store, available as a free application download on Blackberry and Android devices, is the first music store application of its kind, offering tens of thousands of MP3s to purchase and enjoy directly from your phone (with more music being added all the time!). This week is bittersweet for Bruce Springsteen, whose cousin and road manager passed away, forcing a concert cancellation in Kansas City. Springsteen however has brighter days ahead, as he is confirmed to perform this weekend at the first of two concerts celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame. The Boss was inducted into the Hall of Fame 10 years ago.

An uncountable number of classics are attributed to Springsteen from several decades. The recent albums Magic, from 2007, and this year’s critically acclaimed Working On A Dream, have produced heavy airplay for The Boss’s new material, including the tracks “Livin' In The Future," “Radio Nowhere,” “Girls In Their Summer Clothes” and “Working On A Dream.”

The original E Street Band has spawned other famous members as well. Max Weinberg, Springsteen's long-time drummer, formed the Max Weinberg 7, the house band for Conan O’Brien for over 15 years Perhaps to more notoriety, guitarist Steven Van Zandt became a household name with his starring turn as Silvio Dante in The Sopranos.

Check out some of Thumbplay’s favorite Bruce Springsteen hits:

Born In The U.S.A.”
Born To Run”
Glory Days”
Badlands”
Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out”
Hungry Heart”
Prove It All Night”
Rosalita”
Spirit In The Night”
Thunder Road”

With just over a month remaining in the College Football season, the bowl rankings are really heating up. TCU's impressive win over Brigham Young on Saturday threw the Bowl Championship rankings into turmoil last night, placing the Horned Frogs above the Boise State Broncos. The two teams won’t meet each other on the field during the regular season, but they are each other’s toughest competition in the fight for a BCS berth. Both teams are considered underdogs in their quest to win a bowl berth without automatically qualifying based on their conferences.

Meanwhile, with five games left to play for each school, the championship game is still anyone’s berth, with several legacy teams vying for a spot along with the underdogs. Will #1 Florida defend their title? Their opponent in last year’s championship game, Oklahoma, has struggled this year, falling completely out of the rankings after tough losses to Brigham Young, Texas and Miami. Maybe #3 Texas will charge their way back into the top spot to return to the big BCS bowl for the first time since the memorable win over USC in 2006. Do #17 Ohio State and #9 LSU, the foes from 2007, have a shot at the big game? It would be tough to climb 17 spots to #1, but that’s the beauty of College Football – it’s anyone’s game!

Check out this week’s rankings:
#1 Florida
#2 Alabama
#3 Texas
#4 Iowa
#5 USC
#6 TCU
#7 Boise State
#8 Cincinnati
#9 LSU
#10 Oregon
#11 Georgia Tech
#12 Penn State
#13 Virginia Tech
#14 Oklahoma State
#15 Pittsburgh
#16 Utah
#17 Ohio State
#18 Houston
#19 Miami
#20 Arizona
#21 West Virginia
#22 South Carolina
#23 Notre Dame
#24 California
#25 Mississippi

The Danish duo The Raveonettes have hit the scene running with the hot single "Bang!" from their new record, In and Out of Control, released earlier this month. The retro-inspired duo has taken cues from rock gods Buddy Holly, The Velvet Underground and other diverse influencers to create their unique sound.

The Raveonettes 2007 LP Lust, Lust, Lust earned rave reviews for its innovative, ethereal guitar sounds interwoven with an infectious hybrid beat of New Wave, Punk and Pop. The album produced several popular songs, including “Dead Sound,” You Want The Candy,” “Aly, Walk With Me,” and “Blush” (along with the amazing B-side “Black-White”). Their follow-up record, the EP Sometimes They Drop By, explored a new dimension of their vintage stylings, combining the cinematic ambience of composers like Angelo Badalamenti, and guitar riffs also found in the work of current guitar aficionado M. Ward.

Though serious about their rocking, The Raveonettes know how to have a fabulous time! Check out their fun videos of “The Last Dance,” “Black / White,” “Dead Sound” and “Aly, Walk With Me.”
