What's Hot On Thumbplay

With just over a month remaining in the College Football season, the bowl rankings are really heating up. TCU's impressive win over Brigham Young on Saturday threw the Bowl Championship rankings into turmoil last night, placing the Horned Frogs above the Boise State Broncos. The two teams won’t meet each other on the field during the regular season, but they are each other’s toughest competition in the fight for a BCS berth. Both teams are considered underdogs in their quest to win a bowl berth without automatically qualifying based on their conferences.

Meanwhile, with five games left to play for each school, the championship game is still anyone’s berth, with several legacy teams vying for a spot along with the underdogs. Will #1 Florida defend their title? Their opponent in last year’s championship game, Oklahoma, has struggled this year, falling completely out of the rankings after tough losses to Brigham Young, Texas and Miami. Maybe #3 Texas will charge their way back into the top spot to return to the big BCS bowl for the first time since the memorable win over USC in 2006. Do #17 Ohio State and #9 LSU, the foes from 2007, have a shot at the big game? It would be tough to climb 17 spots to #1, but that’s the beauty of College Football – it’s anyone’s game!

Check out this week’s rankings:
#1 Florida
#2 Alabama
#3 Texas
#4 Iowa
#5 USC
#6 TCU
#7 Boise State
#8 Cincinnati
#9 LSU
#10 Oregon
#11 Georgia Tech
#12 Penn State
#13 Virginia Tech
#14 Oklahoma State
#15 Pittsburgh
#16 Utah
#17 Ohio State
#18 Houston
#19 Miami
#20 Arizona
#21 West Virginia
#22 South Carolina
#23 Notre Dame
#24 California
#25 Mississippi

The Woodstock music festival of 1969 celebrates its 40th anniversary this weekend. The 3-day music festival, which began on August 15, 1969, is remembered as the quintessential statement of peace through music, and has gone on to define the countercultural crossroads of an entire generation.

The festival introduced three of the world’s legendary guitar impresarios: Richie Havens, known for his unique and intense versions of famous songs such as “Strawberry Fields Forever” and Bob Dylan’s “Just Like A Woman;” Santana, whose performances of tunes like “Black Magic Woman” still remain hugely popular; and the gone-but-not-forgotten genius, Jimi Hendrix, who hit the scene with “Foxey Lady” “Purple Haze” and a killer cover of Bob Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower.’ Other legendary performances on the Woodstock stage include The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Sly & The Family Stone, The Band led by Levon Helm, The Who, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Jefferson Airplane.

While that weekend of staggering genius continues to intrigue younger generations, don’t miss out on Thumbplay’s HUGE catalog of rock MP3’s, and don’t miss our fun graphics celebrating Woodstock.

Jon Stewart

The website of Comedy Central's Jon Stewart is seeing tons of hits today. A large part of this is due to the rift that has grown between the comedian and financial guru Jim Cramer. On last night's Daily Show, Jon Stewart played multiple clips of Jim Cramer giving investment tips in a particular stock, which has since dropped. Cramer has already been on a few shows defending himself, saying that anything can happen in a bad economy. We'll have to wait and see how this battle between the two develops, as Jim Cramer is set to be a guest on Jon Stewart's show tomorrow night.

VH1 Shows: Tones & Graphics

For those of us who love VH1 shows, there's tons of cool mobile content available. One of my favorite shows is Flavor of Love. For years, I've been a Public Enemy fan. They were one of the most innovative Rap groups of the 80's /90's and brought Flavor Flav to the forefront as one of Rap's most original hype men. Their collaboration with Metal group Anthrax was a huge success. "Bring The Noise" was one of their big hits. VH1's show Flavor Of Love has catapulted Flav's career again and has given us all countless hours of entertainment. Another VH1 show favorite is Hogan Knows Best. When this show launched, I was so glad to see Hulk Hogan back on TV. It's been years since I've seen him in the ring, so to see him in his 'dad' role was pretty neat. Bret Michaels is definitely keeping busy these days. If you're a fan of the band Poison, then you may want to check out Rock of Love: Ringtones and Graphics. See all the VH1 Ringtone choices here and the VH1 Graphic selections here.

I have to admit, MTV kicked-off the year with a number of great new shows. The City and Real World Brooklyn are probably at the top of my list. There's a lot of excitement around the new cast members. You have Whitney & Jay, and then there's Ryan & Devyn -so much juicy internal drama going on. But my steady weekend favorite is Run's House (love the marathons). By the way, did you know we have the ringtone to JoJo's "Billion Dollar Boyfriend"? There are some other major heavy hitting shows like The Daily Show and Reno911! Also, who can forget Hogan Knows Best and Flavor of Love. Check out all the MTVN categories on the site to find your favs. Kato Mate my friends...

If you're really in love, maybe try these: Kelly Clarkson's "My Life Would Suck Without You", T.I.'s "Whatever You Like", Katy Perry's "Thinking Of You", Taylor Swift's "Love Story".

Have a great holiday everyone!

NFL Happenings

It's time for the playoffs and a number of teams have just won their spots. Congrats to the Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, Baltimore Ravens, Atlanta Falcons, Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles and the rest of the teams. As a result of this season's losses, a few coaches have just been fired. These would include Eric Mangini from the Jets, Romeo Crennel from the Browns and Rod Marinelli from the Lions. Yesterday's hard-fought games were not without their injuries. Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo collapsed after their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Pittsburg Steelers QB Rothlisberger got carried off the field due to whiplash in the game vs Cleveland.

NFL Playoffs Countdown

With only two weeks remaining in the 2008 NFL Regular Season, the race to the playoffs have begun. In the AFC, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans have both clinched playoff spots. In the NFC, only two teams have spots so far- the New York Giants and Arizona Cardinals. It will be exciting to see The Giants' primetime showdown against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday night, since both teams share a record of 11-3. With seven teams battling for the last four spots, The Giants and Panthers seem to be the two top teams in the NFC right now. The big AFC showdown will be the Pittsburgh Steelers visiting the Tennesee Titans. Other key games this week are Atlanta Falcons vs. Minnesota Vikings, Baltimore Ravens vs. Dallas Cowboys. For many NFL fans, it's been nothing less than an exciting season.

Hanukkah Mobile Content

As Hanukkah approaches, now's a great time to celebrate with ringtones, graphics and MP3's for your mobile phone. Some cool graphics are the 3D Menorah, the Neon Star of David, and the Colorful Dreidel. For new ringtones, check out Songs In The Key Of Hanukkah; it features new takes on classic songs. A seasonal favorite group is NYC's own The Klezmatics, who have a number of fun tones to celebrate Hanukkah like "Do The Latke Flip-Flop" and "Honeyky Hanukkah". Billy Sherwood's MP3 of "Rockin' Hanukkah" is a well-known tune, heard on the TV show "Brothers & Sisters". Speaking of rockin' Hanukkah songs, check out this rocked up version of "Spin The Dreidel" by Dave Feldstein. If traditional is more your style "I Have a Little Dreidel" MP3 by Wendie Colter might do. Happy Hanukkah!

College Football

The College Football season is getting intense right now. Last week we saw Pittsburg lose to Cincinnati, Ohio State crush Michigan, and Oklahoma's victory over Texas Tech. This Saturday, I'm looking forward to watching Georgia Tech play their long-time rival the Georgia Bulldogs. The battle for state bragging rights is on, as these two teams go head-to-head. If Georgia Tech wins, it will be their first victory over the Bulldogs in 7 years. Will Georgia Tech come out victorious? I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Thanksgiving / TV Holiday Specials

Thanksgiving's here! It's also the time of year that our favorite Holiday TV specials are on. Charlie Brown and How The Grinch Stole Christmas are just two of the beloved classics. While The Polar Express, The Santa Clause and Shrek The Halls are among the newer shows getting played every year.

Peronsonally, I can't get enough of Vince Guaraldi's tunes around this holiday season. Vince was the one responsible for all the Charlie Brown classics like "Linus & Lucy", "Skating", "Christmastime Is Here" and the jazzed-out "Charlie Brown Theme". If you're a Dr. Seuss fan, you can download the original version of "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" to your cell.

For a real hoot, check out these Thanksgiving tones, they're really funny!

Halloween

Halloween is coming soon! Here are some suggestions to keep your mobile phone sPoOKy...

For ringtones, what could be scarier than the Psycho Theme or cooler then the original Addams Family Theme?

For videos, check out Zombie Attack or famed actor Bela Lugosi as Dracula (in one of the most recognizable horror clips!). If you're into truly gross things, check out Brain Surgery. There's plenty of videos to make anyone squirm! Click here to see all of them.

Some of my favorite animations are Beyond The Grave and the bouncy Halloween Ghost.

Tones From The Hills

If anyone watched The Hills last night, you'd probably agree with me that there was a lot of great music played during the show. In addition to "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield still being used as the theme song, they did a really good job of featuring new music by both upcoming and established artists. I'd have to say the musical highlights for me was hearing The Ting Tings "Shut Up And Let Me Go", Rihanna's "Disturbia"; and Pussycat Dolls' "When I Grow Up" rocking the start of the show. I though the use of Estelle's "American Boy" was perfectly timed for Lauren's date with Doug. There were great spots for newcomers Lesley Roy with her single "I'm Gone, I'm Going" and the very hip Lady Gaga's "Just Dance" which I'm sure many of you know. I predict it's going to be a great season for Lauren and the girls.

If you really want to check out something interesting, check out Heidi's tone here.
