1980's heart throb Patrick Swayze has died after a public battle with pancreatic cancer. The star made an impression in several notable films, including Dirty Dancing, Ghost and Donnie Darko. The retro soundtracks, many of which sparked comeback hits for forgotten classics, were the trademark of many Swayze’s films.
Aguably Swayze's biggest cinematic hit, the drama Ghost featured a huge resurgence in popularity for the Righteous Brothers classic “Unchained Melody.” The popular film Dirty Dancing, in which Swayze famously showcased his dancing ability, also produced an enormous hit with the film's 60's-inspired soundtrack. Dirty Dancing included some of the greatest songs of the era, including “Do You Love Me” by The Contours and “Love Is Strange” by Mickey & Sylvia. Among the retro hits featured in Swayze's films are Donnie Darko's “Notorious” by Duran Duran, and “Mad World” and “Head Over Heels” by Tears For Fears; “Stay Gold” by Stevie Wonder from The Outsiders; Dion's "Runaround Sue" from Roadhouse; Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" from Waking Up In Reno; and "If 6 Was 9" by the Jimi Hendrix Experience from Point Break.
Don't miss Thumbplay's homage to the movies, with tons of soundtrack hits and memorable lines from your favorite flicks.

Etta James seems to be making alot of buzz about
Beyonce's inaugural performance a few weeks back for President
Obama. The former
Destiny's Child front-woman sang the
Etta James classic "
At Last", which she revived for the recent movie
Cadillac Records. Whatever
Etta's point-of-view is, there's no denying that her original version remains a classic to this day. It's continually played on Oldies stations, as well as a favorite choice for the bride & groom dance at weddings all over the country. But if you happen to be a big
Beyonce fan, her version from the movie is a definite pleaser.

If you saw Napoleon Dynamite, you'll remember his favorite animal is a
liger, half lion half tiger. It turns out that there has been a real liger attack! At Safari’s Wildlife Sanctuary in Oklahoma, 32 year old Peter Getz has been mauled by a liger and is now in critical condition after the attack. A "liger" for those of you not familiar with genetic experimentation, is a half tiger, half lion, and they’re truly frightening because of how enormous they are. It's unclear why combining male lion DNA with female tiger DNA results in a creature who is much bigger than either species. But sometimes the results can be deadly, as a volunteer at the Wagoner County wildlife sanctuary in Tulsa, Oklahoma, learned yesterday.
Here is an actual Liger:

What's that great song in the trailer for Pineapple Express? It's
Paper Planes from Sri Lankan superstar
M.I.A.This single was already a hit with a controversial singer, video, and lyrics. What makes it so sensational? Aside from turning gunshots into music, the song seems to be about smuggling and making fake visas. Perhaps an ode to the realities of immigrant culture. Not sure but it's a killer beat and it makes sense for Pineapple Express, starring Seth Rogan and James Franco.
What's more fitting for a stoner movie than the lyrics "Fly like paper, get high like planes?" Not advocating any such activity here, but it's a fun song and Pineapple Express promises to be an even more fun summer movie.

Paper Planes Ringtones here, including remixes from the
