This week is bittersweet for Bruce Springsteen, whose cousin and road manager passed away, forcing a concert cancellation in Kansas City. Springsteen however has brighter days ahead, as he is confirmed to perform this weekend at the first of two concerts celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame. The Boss was inducted into the Hall of Fame 10 years ago.

An uncountable number of classics are attributed to Springsteen from several decades. The recent albums Magic, from 2007, and this year’s critically acclaimed Working On A Dream, have produced heavy airplay for The Boss’s new material, including the tracks “Livin' In The Future," “Radio Nowhere,” “Girls In Their Summer Clothes” and “Working On A Dream.”

The original E Street Band has spawned other famous members as well. Max Weinberg, Springsteen's long-time drummer, formed the Max Weinberg 7, the house band for Conan O’Brien for over 15 years Perhaps to more notoriety, guitarist Steven Van Zandt became a household name with his starring turn as Silvio Dante in The Sopranos.

Check out some of Thumbplay’s favorite Bruce Springsteen hits:

Glory Days”
Badlands”

The Danish duo The Raveonettes have hit the scene running with the hot single "Bang!" from their new record, In and Out of Control, released earlier this month. The retro-inspired duo has taken cues from rock gods Buddy Holly, The Velvet Underground and other diverse influencers to create their unique sound.

The Raveonettes 2007 LP Lust, Lust, Lust earned rave reviews for its innovative, ethereal guitar sounds interwoven with an infectious hybrid beat of New Wave, Punk and Pop. The album produced several popular songs, including “Dead Sound,” You Want The Candy,” “Aly, Walk With Me,” and “Blush” (along with the amazing B-side “Black-White”). Their follow-up record, the EP Sometimes They Drop By, explored a new dimension of their vintage stylings, combining the cinematic ambience of composers like Angelo Badalamenti, and guitar riffs also found in the work of current guitar aficionado M. Ward.

Though serious about their rocking, The Raveonettes know how to have a fabulous time! Check out their fun videos of “The Last Dance,” “Black / White,” “Dead Sound” and “Aly, Walk With Me.”

MTV Video Music Awards Full of Thrills

From Kanye West's disruption of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech, to Lady GaGa's shocking, horror-themed performance, the MTV Video Music Awards fulfilled its promise to be the most buzz-worthy awards show of the year. The night’s excitement, MC'd by Wale, was topped off with tons of memorable live performances from Beyonce, Pink, Pitbull, Muse, 3OH!3, The All-American Rejects, and an encore by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys.

Never one to shy away from controversy, Kanye West stormed the stage during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech to proclaim his preference for Beyonce’s video, “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).” Swift, always the lady, politely stepped aside while Kanye West was heckled by the crowd. In a display of her trademark class, Beyonce took the opportunity, when she won Video Of The Year for “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It),” to invite Taylor Swift on-stage to finish the speech Kanye cut short.

More excitement ensued when Lady GaGa appeared to be injured during her elaborate dance sequence for her hit “Paparazzi.” In fact, it was all part of the dramatic, gory performance which morphed into horror movie madness, interpreted by some as an homage to Michael Jackson’s "Thriller" and Madonna’s famous 1980’s MTV VMA performance of “Like A Virgin.”

Earlier in the evening, Madonna gave a heartfelt tribute to Michael Jackson , preceded by a special appearance from Janet Jackson. Janet’s performance was part of a larger tribute that included dance re-enactments of Michael’sThriller,” “Smooth Criminal” and “Bad” videos.

Other memorable live performances included Muse, with their new single “Uprising,” The All-American Rejects with " Gives You Hell,” Pitbull with his hit "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho),” Taylor Swift singing “You Belong With Me,” Pink performing her hit “Sober” from a trapeze, and finally, the much-anticipated “Empire State Of Mind” duet with Jay-Z and Alicia Keys.

The Fab Four are grabbing headlines this week with the hotly anticipated re-release of their entire catalog, along with The Beatles: Rock Band™ game. Tomorrow's music release, a complete set of re-mastered recordings, will not be available through internet MP3 retailers, which make The Beatles one of the last hold-outs currently unwilling to sell their music in digital form.

However, music fans have a reason to be hopeful: the solo recordings of John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr are all sold through digital music outlets. Internet stirrings also indicate that the legends may ultimately go digital with their own official music sales website.

Regardless of their digital fate, The Beatles continue to intrigue many generations of music fans. Don’t miss excellent live versions of George Harrison’s timeless “Here Comes the Sun,” Paul McCartney's "Live And Let Die,” Ringo Starr's "It Don't Come Easy,” and John Lennon’s “Instant Karma! The Woodstock music festival of 1969 celebrates its 40th anniversary this weekend. The 3-day music festival, which began on August 15, 1969, is remembered as the quintessential statement of peace through music, and has gone on to define the countercultural crossroads of an entire generation.

The festival introduced three of the world’s legendary guitar impresarios: Richie Havens, known for his unique and intense versions of famous songs such as “Strawberry Fields Forever” and Bob Dylan’s “Just Like A Woman;” Santana, whose performances of tunes like “Black Magic Woman” still remain hugely popular; and the gone-but-not-forgotten genius, Jimi Hendrix, who hit the scene with “Foxey Lady” “Purple Haze” and a killer cover of Bob Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower.’ Other legendary performances on the Woodstock stage include The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Sly & The Family Stone, The Band led by Levon Helm, The Who, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Jefferson Airplane.

The on-going rivalry between the two superstars turned white hot today, with Eminem leaking a follow-up to his recent "Bagpipes From Baghdad." "Bagpipes," a track from Eminem's recent album Relapse, featured a controversial reference to Mariah Carey and her husband, Nick Cannon. The Original King

With the tragic passing of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, we are reminded of the original King, Elvis Presley. Another creative genius and cultural icon, Elvis Presley's groundbreaking body of work allowed Rhythm & Blues, Rock n Roll and Pop music to merge forever. Until Michael Jackson, no other artist could touch the cultural, iconic power of Elvis, whose early hits of the 50’s and 60’s, “All Shook Up,”“Hound Dog,”“Don’t Be Cruel” and “Heartbreak Hotel,” were the cornerstone of Rock n Roll history. His full-bodied, soulful voice also redefined older classics, such as “Blue Moon” and “Love Letters.” Presley’s late career held many landmark 70’s hits as well, such as “Always On My Mind,” “Solitaire,” and “Burning Love.” Don’t miss Thumbplay’s entire catalog of Elvis tones and MP3’s!

Idol® Boys Club Face Off

Last night's show was hotter than it has been all season, with the final three guys performing two songs each. The first round songs were "Judges Choice," kicking off with Danny Gokey singing Paula's pick, a rambunctious version of Terence Trent D’Arby’s “Dance Little Sister,” to mixed praise by the judges. Next up was a surprising and original performance by Kris Allen, of OneRepublic’sApologize,” chosen by Kara and Randy. Simon stuck with the classics, hand-picking U2’s “One” for Adam, whose arrangement of the song rubbed Randy the wrong way.

The half-way mark brought in old favorite, season four winner Carrie Underwood, showing her charitable side in the annual “Idol Gives Back®” segment, to the tune of Karl Wolf’sAfrica,” a cover of the 1983 Toto hit. Round two started with Danny’s "You Are So Beautiful" made famous by Joe Cocker. Was it enough to keep Danny alive? He has some stiff competition from Kris, whose unique cover of Kanye West’sHeartless” brought the house down. Simon pleaded with viewers to vote for Adam, who chose "Cryin’" by Aerosmith as his final song.

Heavy Hitting Rock

For the first time ever, Led Zeppelin and Metallica have released their ringtones -and Thumbplay has them all. This is major news for all of us Rock fans, as it's been a long wait to finally get these songs available as tones.

Metallica's new single "The Day That Never Comes" rocks as loud and hard as some of their classics like "Enter Sandman", "One", "The Unforgiven" and "Nothing Else Matters" -which are all still played regularly at radio stations 'round the world. I'm also psyched to finally have the mighty Led Zep's historic anthems "Stairway To Heaven", "Black Dog", "The Immigrant Song","Kashmir" and of course "Rock And Roll". These tones will certainly provide a great excuse to ~rock out~ every time the phone rings.

Two more tones worthy of mentioning are AC/DC's "Let There Be Rock" used in the game Rock Band 2 and Foreigner's "Jukebox Hero" which is another great Rock Band game song. Hope you enjoy!

Bonus fact, Matt Cameron, drummer for Pearl Jam, used to be in Soundgarden.

ROCK VIDEO CLIPS

You don't have to have long hair and tattoos to enjoy our Rock music videos clips! Thumbplay makes it easy to download the best available for mobile. Let me break down a list of some of the favorites:

For the EMO Rockers…The All-American Rejects have delivered their huge hit 'Move Along', together with their earlier single 'Dirty Little Secret', which is a great video for those on the down-low…catch my drift? Fall Out Boy's Thnks fr th Mmrs has been a favorite for those trying to tell someone to ‘have a nice life’.

There are videos whose songs you can currently hear in tv commercials… like Shiny Toy Guns' 'Le Disko' and Sublime's 'Santeria'. Those two have gotten a lot of play in the past few months. Sound familiar?
In the Hard Rock arena…Papa Roach's 'Last Resort' and AFI's 'Love Like Winter' deliver a hard punch.

On the Pop side, there are videos you MUST know… Hinder's 'Lips Of An Angel' is probably the most recognizable among Thumbplayers. Dashboard Confessional's 'Stolen' and 3 Doors Down 'Here Without You' are the heart-breakers (sighhhh). Then there is The Killers' 'Somebody Told Me' and so many great ones from Weezer like 'Beverly Hills', 'Undone The Sweater Song', 'Say It Ain’t So' and 'Hash Pipe'. Tell me you haven’t heard any of those before?

In the Alternative realm… Beck's 'Loser' and 'Girl' are definitely two of the cool ones.
And last but not least, there’s ummm… The Pink Spiders' 'Little Razorblade' and New Found Glory's 'It’s Not Your Fault'. I won’t really say much about those two. You’ll just have to check them out for yourself…
